I swore a $30 rice cooker would ruin me, 4 years later it's still going
Back in 2021 I stood in a Target in Reno staring at two rice cookers. One was a fancy $180 Zojirushi with all the settings, the other was a basic $30 Aroma with one switch. I picked the cheap one because I was broke and figured it would die in a year anyway, then I'd upgrade. It's been 4 years now and that thing has cooked probably 800 batches of rice without a single issue. My buddy bought the fancy one and his lid sensor broke twice in the same time. Did I just get lucky or is the cheap option actually fine for most people?
Used to roll my eyes at cheap kitchen stuff and figured you get what you pay for. Then my $25 Aroma from Walmart outlasted my roommate's $150 fuzzy logic machine that died at the two year mark, and I had to eat my words. The fancy ones have circuit boards and sensors that can crap out, while the cheap ones are basically just a heating element and a spring. Give me the dumb one switch model any day.
