Rant: My sister's 20 minute warning about her old roommate saved me from a real mess
She said if a roommate ever pays rent in cash and asks you to keep it quiet, something is wrong, because hers was hiding an eviction from the landlord and it blew up on her in Denver. I asked my new guy for a receipt after that talk and he got weird about it fast. Has anyone else had a roommate who wanted rent kept off the books?

something is wrong" feels like a stretch. Plenty of people pay cash for rent and it's totally fine, some landlords just prefer it. The getting weird about a receipt is a yellow flag at most, not proof the guy's hiding an eviction.
