My roommate's "clean kitchen" rule means I can't use the stove after 9pm
Three years ago I moved into a two bedroom in Portland with a guy named Dave, and his one big rule was the kitchen had to be spotless every night before bed. Sounds fine, right? Except he decided that meant no cooking after 9pm because pans and dishes would sit out overnight, so I started eating cold sandwiches while he microwaved his dinner at 8:45 and left his own bowl in the sink until morning. Last Tuesday I got home from work at 10 and just wanted scrambled eggs, and he stood in the doorway watching me like I was breaking a law. People say I should just clean up right after, but he still counts it as breaking the rule. How do you all handle a roommate who makes rules that only apply to you?
