That time I defended Battlefield Earth to my film club

Everyone trashes it but the scene where the guy rips open the safe with his bare hands? That was pure dumb fun. Got 3 people to admit they actually enjoyed the campy vibe. Anyone else got a guilty pleasure scene from a 'bad' movie?

Wait, you made 3 people admit they enjoyed Battlefield Earth? That movie where John Travolta is wearing dreadlocks and a weird nose piece? I need to know your secret. I tried to defend the safe scene once at my old office and my coworker just stared at me like I’d lost my mind. He said it looked like a guy trying to open a bag of chips with his teeth and failing. Guess you found a better crowd.

Oh man, the safe scene is a masterpiece of terrible. I once watched that with a buddy and we rewound it like four times because we couldn't believe how long he was just gnawing on it. It's like watching a beaver try to chew through a brick wall. And I get the crowd thing too, I mentioned this movie at a family dinner once and my uncle walked out of the room. Three people is a straight up miracle.

Nora's comparison to opening a bag of chips with your teeth is way too accurate lol but that's exactly why it works. The whole movie has that energy where nothing quite works right but you're still watching because its so weirdly fun to see how bad it gets.
