My manager started 15 min standups at the loading dock and I thought it was a waste until I tried the clipboard version
So our shift lead started doing these quick 15 minute huddles by the loading dock at 6am before we open, and at first I thought it was just another meeting to stand through while half asleep. For like 3 weeks I zoned out and nodded along. Then one morning she hands me a clipboard and says just write down what everyone says they need help with, nothing else. Turns out the talking version of the standup was chaos because everybody jumped in over each other and the quiet guys never said a word, so we kept redoing the same broken pallet work all week. The clipboard version, where people jot their one problem before we talk, cut our rework on the floor almost in half in like 10 days. My lead even pulled me aside and goes "see, I knew you'd get it eventually" which kind of stung but she was right. Now I actually look forward to that 15 minutes because it saves me an hour of confusion later. Has anyone else seen a dumb meeting turn useful just by changing the format like that?
