Socks with toes vs regular socks, the Christmas my aunt proved everyone wrong

My aunt gave me toe socks two years ago and I laughed about it for months. Then I wore them on a 6 mile hike in Asheville and my blisters disappeared, so now I'm torn. Is a gift bad if it actually works better than what you'd pick yourself, or does weirdness still count against it?
