My aunt got us a $75 fondue set and my cousin got us a used bread maker, guess which one we actually kept
So for our housewarming in Fresno my aunt dropped $75 on a fancy fondue set with like 12 little forks, and my cousin gave us a bread maker she'd clearly ran a few dozen times. I figured the fondue thing was the real gift and the bread maker was the throwaway, but three weeks later the fondue pot is still in the box in the garage and we make sandwiches with the bread maker almost daily. The fondue one is pretty and all but you have to buy a whole spread of cheese and bread just to use it, while the bread maker just needs flour and water. What's the weirdest gift you got where the cheap one quietly won?
The bread maker just needs flour and water but you still gotta measure everything and wait hours for one loaf, while fondue is instant party food the second people walk in. A used machine someone already ran a few dozen times is a used machine, that thing could die next month and then what. The fondue set will outlive us all, you just haven't had a reason to break it out yet.
