Found out the average wedding gift in 1985 cost $25, and I got a $7 candle holder from my cousin last month
I was digging through my parents' basement in Akron and found a box of old wedding gifts they never used, still with the price tags. Ngl, I sat there doing the math on an inflation calculator because it seemed wrong. A punch bowl from 1985 that cost $25 would run about $75 today, and my cousin gave me a plain candle holder from a discount rack, receipt still taped to it, $7. What really got me was the card, all it said was "hope this lights up your new place." Honestly that candle holder has sat in a drawer for 8 months doing nothing. Did gift giving just get cheaper over time, or is my family just stingy?
