Why my simple compass keeps me on track better than apps
I got turned around in thick fog when my phone map glitched. Reading a compass and map got me back to the route fast, even though most folks swear by digital guides. How do you handle navigation when technology fails?

Feel your pain about tech dying at the worst time. Learned maps the hard way after a similar scare on a trail. That stuff sticks with you and makes the old skills feel priceless.

Actually practicing with a map and compass before you really need them is key. Did you go out and try it in a safe area first, or just figure it out when you were already stuck? That initial learning curve seems like the hardest part.

When you said reading a compass and map got you back fast, that shows how RELIABLE basic tools are. Tech can die exactly when you need it, like in that fog. How did you first get good at using a map on your own?
