The 9 mile resupply detour that killed my loop near Bend

I mapped a route off a 2018 post and it sent me 9 miles out of the way for a store that closed in 2021, nobody updates those old trip reports. Have you guys found a reliable way to check if a water cache or shop is still there before you commit to a detour like that?

Did you at least get a nice tour of some random Oregon backroad as a bonus? I did the same thing last year, hiked 6 extra miles to a "reliable" spring that turned out to be a dry patch of mud with a dead mouse in it. Now I call ahead to the actual store if there's cell service, or I check recent comments on FarOut and Guthook instead of trusting some blog from 2018. If nobody has posted about it in the last month, I just assume it's gone and pack extra water. Old trip reports are basically ghost stories at this point.
