That buddy who swore by sleeping on a closed cell foam pad changed my backcountry trip
My friend Mike told me last summer that closed cell foam pads are better than inflatables for cold weather camping in the Sierra Nevada at 10,000 feet. I ignored him and brought my inflatable, woke up shivering at 3am because the ground sucked all my heat. Anyone else have a piece of gear advice they wish they listened to earlier?

Drove myself crazy for years switching between inflatables and trying to find the perfect setup before finally giving in and getting a thick closed cell pad. Now I just roll it out and sleep like a rock even on frozen ground, never looking back.

@the_lucas I was so sure inflatables were the only way to go for years, but your post finally convinced me to try a thick foam pad. First night out with it and I didn't toss once, total game changer.
