The one question that shuts down my aunt's political rants every Thanksgiving
Last year I was desperate for a way to stop my aunt from going on about politics at dinner. I just asked her “what do you think Grandma would say about this?” and she went silent for a solid minute. Has anyone else found a simple question that derails awkward family arguments?

Wait, the grandma question actually worked? That's wild.

Right? I honestly didn't think it would work but you just never know with people. It's kind of sad that we even have to try something like that to get a straight answer. But hey, if it gets the job done then I'm all for it. Have you ever tried something similar just to get a human on the phone?

Nothing beats a good grandma story to shut things down." @dianas50 yeah it actually worked way better than I expected. I think the key is asking about someone they actually respected, not just any random relative. My aunt used to go on about how her mom would never let anyone talk over her at dinner, so it hit different when I brought her up.
