I used to sit at the kids table at 29, now I eat with the grown ups and honestly miss it
For like 6 straight Thanksgivings I parked myself at the kids table at my aunt's place in Modesto, and I did it on purpose. The kids ate in 10 minutes flat and then ran off to play, which meant I got the couch and could watch football without anyone asking me about my job or why I'm still single. Last November my cousin finally had a baby and there was no kids table left, so my aunt pointed me to the real table between my uncle who chews loud and my grandma who repeats every question twice. I sat there for 3 hours listening to a fight about who got grandpa's truck and a story about a fence line that somehow lasted 45 minutes. I missed the couch so bad I almost faked a headache, but I did learn that my uncle once got kicked out of a Denny's in Fresno, which I never would have heard from the kids table. Now I'm stuck at the adult table for good and I have no idea how people survive it. Does anyone else have a spot they got promoted out of and wish they hadn't?
