Hot take: saying "we don't talk politics" at Thanksgiving actually got my uncle to pass the rolls and shut up for once
Tried it at my parents' house in Ohio back in November after 6 years of blowups, and my dad shot me a look like I'd just solved the Middle East, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has a go-to line that kills the family drama before it starts?

Did your family actually respect it or did someone try to sneak in a jab anyway? My go-to is just "let's eat" said loud enough to cut off whatever argument is brewing. Works about half the time.
