Just realized touching a screwdriver to the pitot tube is not how you check the heat circuit
Last Thursday I was chasing a pitot heat fault on a King Air and the guy next to me said just tap it and see if it warms up, so I did and got nothing for 15 minutes. Turns out the heating element only kicks on above 40 knots on that model, so the whole time I was standing on a cold ramp testing a system that was working fine. Has anyone else been fooled by a ground test that needs airflow before it reads anything?
