Tried reusing a torque-to-yield head bolt on a 2.2 Ecotec and it snapped at 60 ft-lbs
I was doing a head gasket on a customer's 2003 Cavalier at my garage in Akron and tried to save time by reusing the old bolts since the new set wasn't in yet. Got to the final 90 degree turn and heard a pop, the bolt head sheared right off in the block. Spent the next 4 hours drilling it out with a left hand bit and extractor, almost wrecked the threads. Learned the hard way those TTY bolts stretch once and never go back, no matter what the guy at the parts counter claims. Anyone got a good source for the real torque spec chart on these, the one in the manual seems off.
