TIL the brake lathe at my first job in Dayton taught me more about warped rotors than any manual
Back in 2009 I was turning rotors on an old Ammco lathe at a Firestone in Dayton and the old guy training me made me mic every single one after cutting instead of just eyeballing it. He said 90% of comebacks come from skipping that step and chasing a vibration that was never the rotor in the first place. How many of you still check runout with a dial indicator before you even pull the wheel, or do you just feel it out on the test drive?
That habit of checking instead of guessing shows up everywhere once you notice it, not just in a shop. A guy I know who does home inspections says the same thing about moisture meters, that skipping the reading and going by feel is how you end up replacing drywall that was never wet. The tools exist because our hands lie to us more often than we want to admit.
