TIL a $20 timing light fixed a misfire I'd been chasing for 3 months

I fought a random misfire on my 2006 Silverado since August. Replaced plugs, coils, even the fuel injectors. Finally borrowed my buddy's timing light from his shop in Akron and found the distributor was off by 4 degrees. Felt like an idiot but also learned sometimes the simple tools are the ones you overlook. Anyone else ever waste money chasing a problem that a basic diagnostic tool could have found?

My buddy in Toledo spent six hundred bucks on injectors before his dad grabbed a timing light and fixed it in ten minutes.

Man I read somewhere that timing lights are weirdly underrated for older trucks.
