Switched my torque wrench after 8 years and finally stopped snapping bolts

I always thought digital torque wrenches were overkill until I snapped 3 intake manifold bolts in a row on a Ford 5.4 last Tuesday and borrowed my buddy's Snap-on digital one on a whim and it clicked at exactly the right tension every time, so now I'm thinking about dropping $400 on my own, anyone else fight with old click-type wrenches?.

Does it ever seem like everything in life works better the first year and then it's all downhill from there, even tools that are supposed to stay the same? Your mileage may vary but I've noticed the same thing with my click type, it's just not as crisp as it used to be.

Yeah I had the same problem with my old click-type, it was fine for years then one day it just started letting me overtighten stuff randomly. I ended up marking the handle with a sharpie at the settings I used most and getting it recalibrated, but it was never the same after about year 5. @margaret99 you're right, they just lose that crisp feel. What finally worked for me was just buying a new beam style wrench for most stuff and keeping a cheap digital for the critical bolts. Honestly the beam style is way more reliable long term even if it's a little slower to read.
