I started taking photos of every teardown with a $20 clamp light and it cut my comeback rate in half
My shop in Dayton has been getting killed on comebacks lately, mostly little stuff like clips not seated or a harness routed wrong that nobody catches until reassembly. About 8 weeks ago I started hanging a cheap clamp light off the hinge and shooting 4 or 5 pics with my phone every time I pull a bumper or a door panel. Sounds dumb but I went back and looked at a photo from a Mazda front end and spotted a broken tab I'd missed completely. Since then my comeback rate dropped from about 1 in 8 jobs to 1 in 20, no joke. The estimator even started pulling up my pics when a customer argues about pre-existing damage. Curious if anyone else does the photo thing or if I'm just late to the party on this?
I used to roll my eyes at the photo thing and figured it was a waste of time on flat rate. Then I had a run of comebacks over dumb stuff I know a pic would have caught, and now I snap a few before anything goes back together. Sounds like you're ahead of most shops on this, the estimator using them for damage fights is a nice bonus.
