Why does every processed moon photo look like a plastic ball?
I've been browsing this sub for about 3 months now and I keep seeing the same issue. People stack 500 frames, sharpen the heck out of it, and end up with a moon that looks like a white marble with craters painted on. It's not just beginners either, some really expensive setups produce the same plastic look. I think it comes down to overdoing the wavelet sliders in Registax or whatever software they use. I tried backing off the sharpening by 40% and doing a simple curve adjustment instead, and my last full moon shot finally had that soft, dusty texture. Has anyone else found a specific processing step that fixes this, or is it just a taste thing?
