Phone camera stacking beat my telescope, didn't see that coming
I spent 3 years fighting with a cheap EQ mount and a 90mm refractor, always getting blurry results from the atmosphere. Last month I got sick of it and just pointed my Pixel at the full moon through a pair of 10x50 binoculars, handheld. I took about 200 frames, kept the sharpest 60, and ran them through free stacking software on my laptop. The detail in the craters and the terminator was honestly better than anything that telescope ever gave me. What convinced me was comparing the two images side by side, the stacked phone shot had way less fuzz and more contrast. Now I use the scope only for planets, and for lunar stuff I just do the phone trick. Has anyone else had better luck with lucky imaging from a phone than a real telescope setup?
