Paid $120 for a solar filter and it was worth every penny at the Grand Canyon
I know the common advice is to just use a welder's glass for solar photography, but I splurged on a proper Baader filter before my trip to the Grand Canyon last month. The detail on the sunspots was ridiculous, and I didn't have to fiddle with exposure times like I did with my old DIY setup. A buddy of mine tried the cheap route and his shots came out all washed out with weird orange tinting. Anyone else found that the name-brand filter handles contrast way better than the budget alternatives?
I dropped about $100 on a Baader film filter two summers ago and the sunspot detail was night and day compared to my old welding glass rig. That orange wash your buddy got is exactly what I dealt with until I switched, the contrast just isn't there with the cheap stuff.
