Last night my star tracker battery died mid-exposure at 2am

I was out at Joshua Tree trying to stack 45 minute shots of the Orion Nebula. About 20 minutes into my third exposure the tracker just slowed down and stopped, battery was completely drained. I had packed a spare but left it in the car which was a half mile hike back. By the time I got back and swapped it out, the clouds had rolled in and ruined the rest of the night. Has anyone else had a tracker die on them in the middle of a session and found a way to check battery levels remotely?
