Serious question, has anyone else had a sprinkler pipe burst in their crawlspace?
I was all set to do my own sprinkler system install last spring, bought all the PVC and fittings from Lowe's. Then the ground shifted after a heavy rain in April and a joint cracked underground. Water was bubbling up in my yard for two days before I noticed. Ended up paying a guy $450 to dig it out and redo that section with flex pipe instead. That experience convinced me that DIY drainage work isn't worth the risk when you don't know what's under the dirt. Has anyone else had a simple project turn into a costly fix because of stuff you couldn't see?

That $450 lesson is rough, I really feel your pain on unexpected ground shifts ruining a good plan.

Did you try calling 811 before you dug, like @kelly.nora's cousin probably should have?

Crazy enough, my cousin had a similar thing happen but with his main water line. He decided to trench from the house to the street for a new line, hit a tree root he swore wasn't there before, and the whole thing snapped backward, flooding his entire front yard. Took three days and a backhoe rental to fix it properly, plus a neighbor's dog got stuck in the mud hole. Sometimes you just can't guess what's hiding underground, no matter how much you plan.
