Just realized I've been using my slow cooker wrong for months

I was making a pot roast for my friend Sam in my apartment last Tuesday, and I kept adding a cup of water like the old recipe said. It came out tasting like boiled socks (you know, just bland and sad). I looked it up and found out with a slow cooker, the meat's own juices are enough, so I tried it again yesterday with just the roast and some onions, and it was way better. Has anyone else had a simple kitchen mistake that ruined a meal for a while?

So you were basically making pot roast soup for months. Did you ever try to fix one of those watery disasters, like taking the lid off for the last hour to let some steam out, or did you just accept your fate and eat the soup?

Trust the lid and the low heat" is the only rule you need. I stopped adding any extra liquid to my stews years ago. The meat and veggies release more than enough on their own.

My slow cooker and I had a similar rough start. For the longest time, I was convinced you had to fill it halfway with liquid, so everything I made was just a sad, watery soup. The day I learned to trust the lid and the low heat was a real game changer. I probably could have opened a soup kitchen with all the broth I wasted.
