I used to clean my paint brushes with mineral spirits and now I just use dish soap

For the last 20 years I always cleaned oil-based brushes with paint thinner, but a painter in Boise showed me how Dawn dish soap works just as well if you do it right. Took me a few tries to get the technique down but now I don't have to deal with nasty fumes in my garage. Has anyone else found a simpler way to handle clean up that saved them time or money?

That dish soap trick is legit if you get the ratio right. I started doing the same after watching a guy in Utah do it with just warm water and a little Dawn, saved me from buying thinner every month. Still keep a bit of mineral spirits around for the really stubborn dried stuff though.

Also depends on your water hardness. Guys with soft water get away with way less soap, hard water needs twice as much or it leaves that weird film on brushes.
