Finally figured out my coil split wiring after 4 years of muddled tone

I've been building this guitar pedalboard setup since 2021 and always thought a single coil tap just meant thinner sound, so I kept cranking the gain to compensate. Last month I watched a demo where the guy rolled his volume knob at 7 instead of 10 and suddenly the split sounded chimey and clear, and that's when it hit me I was fighting the pickup instead of working with it. Anyone else have an 'aha' moment where the fix was just changing one setting you'd ignored forever?

Man, that volume knob trick is just the start of it too. Once you start messing with your tone knob on the split it gets even better, cause you can dial back some of that thin bite without losing the chime. I did the same thing for years, just dimed everything and wondered why my split sounded like a tin can. Rolling off the tone to like 6 or 7 on the bridge split gives you this nice fat single coil thing that sits way better in a mix. And if you got a treble bleed on your volume pot it changes the whole game again, no more dark mud when you roll down. Try the tone knob next, it'll blow your mind all over again lol.
