The one comment from a homeowner that made me change my quote format

Last spring a lady in Fort Worth told me my estimate looked like a ransom note with all the scribbled numbers, so now I print out itemized sheets with plain English descriptions. Has anyone else gotten feedback on how they explain costs that actually made you redo your paperwork?

My buddy runs a handyman gig up in Plano. He used to just text people a total and a date. One guy texted back asking what the 300 bucks covered and if he was paying for the guy's gas and lunch. That stung. So he switched to a simple one-page sheet with each job step laid out. Now he says customers actually ask him questions instead of just staring at the screen. Nobody has accused him of hiding costs since.
