Spent 3 days chasing a water hammer noise that was a 15 minute fix

My place in Portland has been making this banging sound in the pipes every time the washer finishes a cycle. I watched a dozen YouTube videos, bought a 40 dollar pressure gauge, even had my buddy who does HVAC come look at it. Turns out it was just a loose strap on the water line near the water heater, tightened it with a wrench and it stopped in about 15 minutes. Anyone else had a simple fix hide behind a bunch of overthinking? What's the longest you've chased something that ended up being basic?

You ever have one of those where you tear half the house apart and it was something dumb the whole time? My buddy spent a whole weekend chasing a flickering light in his kitchen, replaced the switch and everything, turned out a wire nut had just come loose in the junction box. He still brings it up every time someone mentions electrical work.
