Furnace guy in Cleveland told me to pay him double, stuck with me for months
Last January my furnace died at 2am, called this local guy named Tony who showed up in a beat up van. He fixed it in 20 minutes, handed me a bill for $180 but when I pulled out my card he said "give me $360 cash instead and I'll pretend I was here for two hours for the warranty line." I paid it because I was desperate, but now I keep wondering if that was the move or if he just took advantage of me being a single mom. For you tradespeople, is that kind of cash-only upsell common or did I get played? Would you do that to a customer or is that crossing a line?
