I compared two Phoenix networking groups and one was way better

Hit up the Scottsdale Chamber mixer and the AZ Tech Council breakfast back to back last month, and the Chamber event had way more actual leads even though it cost me $25 more for the ticket. Has anyone else found the pricier groups deliver better connections than the free ones?

Paid events filter for serious people who actually want to network.

Figure I'd end up paying for the premium filter and still find a way to waste money on bad networking events somehow... Probably show up to a paid coffee meetup and end up talking to the barista instead. My luck with these things is pretty legendary in a bad way. But hey, at least the people who paid might actually have business cards ready instead of just trying to sell me vitamins.
