A guy at the Tempe mixer said my handshake was too soft, so I changed how I work a room
Two months ago I went to a mixer in Tempe and a guy named Rick pulled me aside after we talked and said, "Your handshake is like grabbing a wet napkin." I was pretty embarrassed but he was right, I had been doing that quick finger grab my whole life. I practiced a firm grip with my buddies for a couple weeks and started looking people in the eye when I do it at events. Last week three folks asked for my card at the Phoenix chamber meetup, which never happened before. How do you all handle first impressions when you only get a few seconds?
