Took me three days to realize a 'stone tool' was just a weirdly shaped river rock

Found it in a creek bed near Flagstaff and got way too excited. Anyone else wasted hours on a false positive like that?

Is it really a waste of time if you were just having fun looking? I've picked up plenty of cool rocks that were just rocks.

Exactly, the fun is in the looking... not everything needs a point.

Yeah, that's the thing, we're always told to be productive. Like if you're not making something or learning something, it's wasted time. But just noticing stuff, like a weird shaped cloud or a cool pattern in the bricks on a wall, that's its own thing. It feels like we forgot how to just be in the world without trying to get something from it. When was the last time you just sat and watched bugs in the grass without feeling like you should be doing something else?
