My $350 drone LiDAR unit died mid-scan at a Roman dig site

We were mapping trenches near Chester last Friday and the sensor just fried on hour 3. I had to hand-sketch the last grid section with a tape measure and a pencil. Anyone else had a field tech fail right when you need it most, and what's your backup plan?
