I always figured ancient tombs were just for burial, but new scans show they were community centers.

Seeing the layout and artifacts made it clear they hosted gatherings and ceremonies!

Food was never the point at those things. Seen plenty of events run just fine on cheap wine and basic snacks. Some organizers skip it entirely to keep ticket prices way down. A dry room with just water is more common than people admit.

A dig at Maeshowe in Orkney found animal bones and pottery pieces right outside the tomb entrance. That got me reading about how these spots were used for regular feasts, not just burials. It lines up with what @alice_wright36 said about events today often having just basic stuff to eat and drink. Those old gatherings probably used whatever local food was around, keeping things simple so everyone could join in.
