Nearly dropped a 60 ft spruce limb on a fence in Portland because my notch was backwards
I was taking down a spruce in a tight backyard off NE Alberta in Portland and cut my notch on the wrong side of the hinge, so the limb started to barber chair toward a cedar fence. I shut off the saw, stepped back, and let it fall where the hinge actually pointed instead of fighting it with the back cut. Anyone else had a notch come out backwards on a leaner, and how do you double check before you commit?
Did you catch it before you started the back cut or did the saw tell you something was off? I did the same thing on a maple last year and now I always stand back and point at which way I want it to go before I even fire up the saw.
