Just had to pick between a full removal or a risky crown reduction on a big oak in Portland

The client wanted to keep the tree but it was leaning over their garage, so I went with the reduction using a 200t saw and a lot of rigging. Honestly, it took two full days and we had to take off almost 30% of the canopy to get it safe. Anyone ever had a job where saving the tree felt way harder than just taking it down?

Used a 50 ton crane on mine, made it almost easy.

Man, that's the worst kind of call to make. Those big reductions are always a marathon, and you're right, sometimes the math just doesn't add up. The time and gear you burn through can cost more than a removal, easy. It's a good feeling to save a tree, but you gotta wonder if the client really gets what they're paying for sometimes.

It's like that with so many old things these days.
