Cracked a 14 inch oak limb, lesson learned about rope placement
Took down a big red oak behind a garage in Portland last week. Tied my lowering rope too close to the branch collar, thought it was fine. That limb snapped at the union instead of the cut, swung hard, took out a gutter and a chunk of fence. No one got hurt but the homeowner was not happy. Anyone else had a hinge or rope placement throw the whole cut off? What's your rule for setting the choke point?
