Showerthought: Dishwasher leaks showed me why seal checks matter.

I used to skip checking door seals to save time. Now I see they cause most leaks I fix.

My friend's kitchen flooded from a cracked dishwasher seal.

That's a nasty situation for your friend, @simonb92. What gets missed sometimes is the hidden damage behind walls. Water can sneak into the subfloor and cause rot that you won't see for months. Then there's the mold risk in the insulation, which means tearing out drywall. Plus, if the floor warps, it might mess with the dishwasher's alignment and cause another leak later. Really sneaky how a small seal leads to big headaches.

Picture water getting into your electrical outlets by the dishwasher. That causes shorts that trip breakers over and over. It slowly ruins wires inside your walls, so they fail without warning. Fixing that means tearing out walls and floors, a huge cost. Fire risk from sparks is another big problem. So seal checks aren't just for leaks, they prevent dangerous situations.
