Appreciation post: the guy in Toledo who tipped me $20 to show him how his own dryer worked
Had a call in Toledo two weeks ago, a guy named Ray, and instead of hovering while I swapped his thermal fuse he asked if he could watch and take notes. I walked him through the whole cycle: the fuse, the vent, why lint backs up and cooks the fuse in the first place. He tipped me $20 and said his old tech used to shoo him out of the room like the machine was a state secret. I get why some guys guard their tricks, but teaching one homeowner in Toledo to check his own vent is cheaper than me driving out there again in six months, so what's the actual downside here?
Ray's $20 tip is cool but the real deal is that vent check. I gotta say, showing him how his own machine works doesn't mean he'll skip calling you later. Dryers are sneaky, the thing can look fine and still be a fire hazard waiting to happen. But hey, at least he knows what to look for now.
