Went from drilling every hole to using a magnetic template for window sensors
Used to mark and drill each window frame one by one, took forever on a 4 bedroom house in Phoenix. Last fall I grabbed a magnetic drill guide for the recessed sensors, now it takes like 15 minutes less per job. Anyone else switch to a template and notice their bits wearing out slower too?

Oh man, the bit wear thing is real and I never put two and two together until you said it. I was doing a job out in Mesa last spring and my pilot bits kept getting dull after maybe 20 or so holes, which seemed way too fast. Turns out when you freehand it you wiggle the bit around in the hole and that sideways pressure eats the edge up. Once you got a guide holding it straight, the bit just cuts like it should. My tool bill went down a bit after that and I stopped buying those cheap multi packs every other week.
