My kid's friend's dad asked me about alarm sensors over a barbecue
Last weekend, we had a family barbecue. My son's friend's dad saw my work van and started asking questions. He was confused about the difference between motion sensors and door contacts. I explained it in plain terms, using examples from his own home. He was so thankful that he scheduled a consultation for his business. It felt good to share knowledge in a casual setting. That kind of trust is what makes this job rewarding.

Nothing like a sales pitch with your grilled meats.

Feel like that would stress me out at a family event. Personally, I keep work and my personal life pretty separate. Getting into shop talk on a weekend would make it hard to actually relax and enjoy the barbecue. That line getting blurred is exactly why I leave my work at the office.

See your point, but I kinda disagree. Sometimes shop talk at a BBQ can be fun if it's light and everyone's into it, lol. For me, mixing work and personal stuff isn't always bad. It can make things more real and less stuffy. You just gotta know when to switch off.
