I finally understood why my old boss was so obsessed with labeling every single wire after talking to a retired installer at a diner in Boise.
He told me, 'Kid, the next guy who opens that panel at 2 AM during a power outage will either bless you or curse your name,' and that really stuck with me, so what's your BEST labeling tip for a messy retrofit?

A diner in Boise? Seriously?

My buddy did a retrofit and used clear tape over his labels, which seemed smart until the adhesive melted into a sticky mess. Now it's just blurry text on a gummy strip. For a messy job, I'd say use a proper label maker with heat-shrink sleeves on wires. It sounds like overkill but it survives everything. Grant.sam would probably call that overthinking it, but my friend's nightmare panel proves it's worth it.

Ugh, clear tape is the worst for that. I tried it on some terminal blocks once and ended up with the same gooey mess. Heat shrink labels feel like extra work but they're the only thing that actually lasts.
