Found the fix for a 12 year old panel that kept ghosting
Last month I got called to a house in Columbus where the DSC panel was beeping at 3am for no reason. After two visits and a new backup battery, I checked the ground connection and found a corroded splice in the attic that had been there since they built the place. Replaced it with a proper terminal block and crimp connectors, and it's been quiet for 3 weeks now. Anyone else run into weird intermittent faults that trace back to installs from a decade ago?

That "proper terminal block and crimp connectors" line hit home for me. I've noticed over the years that most weird problems in houses, not just alarms, come down to whoever did the job in a hurry back then. It's funny how a little bit of moisture and time can undo what seemed fine for a long stretch, and you end up chasing a ghost that was never really a ghost at all.
