Why does nobody talk about how the 'torque to spec, always' advice almost cost me a gear leg
An old A&P at a hangar in Boise said to always hit the upper limit on the nose gear torque values because 'they come loose anyway', and after 6 months I found the strut nut egg-shaped and the washer cracked. Anyone else run into torque callouts that assume a clean dry thread when the manual clearly wants lube?
An egg-shaped nut after 6 months sounds like way more than just a torque problem, that's a lot of wear. Plenty of guys overtorque stuff and never see anything like that, so something else was probably going on there.
