Rant: the guy at my sister's Super Bowl party taught me a $200 lesson about air fryer bacon
Two years ago at my sister's house in Boise, her neighbor watched me lay bacon flat in her air fryer basket and told me I was about to wreck the nonstick and start a grease fire. I laughed him off and walked away to grab a beer, and 6 minutes later the thing was smoking so bad we had to open the sliding door in February. He didn't say a word, just handed me a sheet of foil with the edges rolled up into a little tray and told me to poke a few holes in the bottom. That foil boat trick is now the only way I cook bacon in mine, and I've never had a single splatter since. So what's your go-to method for greasy stuff, foil, parchment, or do you just line the bottom and pray?
Hold on, you had a sliding door open in Boise in February and the smoke was still that bad? That is wild to me. February in Idaho is freezing and you're standing there fanning smoke out like it's no big deal. The foil boat thing makes total sense though, the rolled up edges catch the grease and the holes let it drain down so it's not sitting in a puddle. I usually just throw a piece of foil in the bottom and call it good but now I'm wondering if I've been getting lucky this whole time. That neighbor was a real one for not even saying I told you so.
