My kid asked if our smart speaker was lonely when we turned it off

I mean, I was just trying to save power, but now I'm wondering if we're training AI to feel abandoned. Has anyone else had a moment that made them rethink how we treat these things?

My nephew asked a similar thing about the Roomba last week. It does make you pause for a second, you know? Like, what are we actually building here.
