Finally fixed the leaky faucet myself after 3 failed attempts

I've been putting off this drip in the bathroom sink for like 4 months. Every time I'd turn the handle, it sounded like a metronome. I watched a couple videos and tried replacing the washer, then the cartridge, neither worked. Last Sunday I took the whole stem apart and found a cracked O-ring that wasn't even in the kit I bought. Cost me 6 dollars for a multi-pack at the hardware store in Portland. I tightened everything back up and it's been dry since Tuesday. I even turned the water off at the valve this time instead of just the handle, which probably saved me from flooding the place. Has anyone else had a repair that took way more tries than the internet promised?

The cracked O-ring thing got me too once. Took me four trips to the store because I kept buying the wrong size. The internet always makes it look like a five minute job, then you're elbow deep in grease at 9pm on a Sunday.
