The flipper who tried to sell me a house with no gutters
Walked a property off San Mateo last spring where the seller's agent swore the lack of gutters was a 'desert design choice.' I asked him how the foundation looked after the July monsoon we had, and he just smiled and said 'buyers love the clean lines.' That one conversation stuck with me because it proved some folks will spin anything into a feature when they want your offer. Has anyone else had a listing agent talk them out of an obvious red flag like that?
Buyers love the clean lines" is real estate speak for "I hope you don't notice the water damage." That agent probably practices that smile in the mirror every morning before he goes off to sell ice to eskimos. In my experience, when a seller's agent spins a clear problem into a style choice, that's your sign to run, or at least bring a good inspector.
